For independent service shops

Every item on your bench. Its whole service history.

BenchTrail is service software for independent shops, built around the equipment, not the sale. Bikes, skis, boards, whatever your customers leave with you: look up the item, see what was done last time, open the ticket, and follow it to pickup.

The demo runs in your browser with a made-up shop. No sign-up, nothing saved.

BoardMain St · Tue Oct 27
Fig. 1The board reads like the tag wall it replaces: overdue first, then today and the days ahead. Status is always a word, never just a colour.

Why

The last receipt isn’t the history.

A shop’s register remembers what it sold. The tech at the bench needs to know what was done to this item, and when.

Paper tags walk off

The tag goes home with the customer, and so does the record of the work.

Point-of-sale tracks sales

A POS can tell you a tune was sold. It can’t tell you which bike it was or what the tech found.

The bench works blind

Last season’s mount, last month’s brake bleed, last year’s rebuild: before you touch it, you should be able to see it.

How it works

A Saturday at the counter, in four steps.

01 · SEARCH

Type a few digits. The customer comes up.

Search is home. A name, the end of a phone number, a ticket number or a serial: each answer comes with the one thing you most likely want next, like New ticket or Pick up.

02 · HISTORY

Every job lands on the item.

Open Avery’s skis and the details are there (length, binding, boot sole), along with every visit: last spring’s mount, this week’s tune. Every item keeps its own history the same way.

“You’re looking for the skis, not the last ticket.”

03 · TICKET

Open the ticket. Pick a ready-by date. BenchTrail picks the work day.

The item comes preselected, and only work that fits it is offered. Set the ready-by date and BenchTrail puts the job on the earliest day with room at the bench, using your bench hours.

04 · BENCH TO PICKUP

The bench moves it along. The counter knows when it’s ready.

Techs mark work as done line by line, add photos and notes, and set the status. Waiting always says why. When it’s ready, the counter finds it by number and hands it over. Every change is recorded with who did it and when.

Built for the shop floor

Readable at two metres, in bad bench light.

One app for the counter PC, the tablet at the bench and the office. Pick Light or Dark. Sunlight is a separate switch that works with either, for a bright window or poor bench light. Try both at the top of this page.

Light

Calm greys. Colour is only for status.

Dark

For a dim back room, or for the techs who prefer it.

  • Big targets. 44 px or larger everywhere, bigger for status and pickup, so it works with gloves on.
  • Never colour alone. Every status carries a word and an icon, so nobody has to tell coral from crimson.
  • Nothing is lost. Drafts park, and every change gets a short Undo.
  • Exact matches act. A scanned ticket number or serial goes straight to it. Anything else waits for you.

Who it’s for

Any shop that takes in equipment and hands it back fixed.

We’re starting with bike and ski shops, because that’s where we know the work. The idea underneath, one record per item with its full history, fits any independent service shop.

Bike shops

  • Find labor by typing, or browse by category, with favourites per location.
  • Prices and expected time per location.
  • The board shows commuters due back this week next to the weekend tune-ups.

Ski & snowboard shops

  • Length, binding and boot sole kept on the item, not on a tag.
  • Mounts, tunes and grinds in one history per pair.
  • A family’s four pairs on one ticket, priced by location.

BenchTrail records the details. It doesn’t calculate binding release settings.

Other service shops

  • E-bikes and scooters, outdoor gear, small engines, instruments: anything with a serial and a service history.
  • The same flow: find the item, see its history, open the ticket, track it on the board, hand it back.
  • What each kind of item records gets shaped with pilot shops.

Not bike or ski? Tell us what you fix.

Try it now

Walk into a made-up shop and run the counter.

The demo is the full clickable app with fake customers and tickets. It runs in your browser, saves nothing, and starts fresh when you reload. Switch between tech, manager and owner to see each view.

Best on a laptop or tablet.

  • /Press slash anywhere to search. Try avery, 1187 or FS-98.
  • IntakePick a ready-by date and watch the work day work itself out.
  • BoardSee the tag wall as Toni the tech, then as Morgan the manager.
  • SunlightSwitch it on, in Light or Dark, and imagine it next to the shop window.

Straight answers

What BenchTrail is, and what it isn’t (yet).

It is

  • A service record for each customer’s equipment, with tickets, notes, photos and status.
  • A board for the bench and a fast counter for drop-off and pickup.
  • Yours to leave: export everything, any time.
  • Walled off per shop, in the database itself. One shop can never see another’s data.

It isn’t

  • A point-of-sale or payment system. Ring up the sale in your register as you do today.
  • A legal release or waiver. Printed summaries are for the customer, not a signed record.
  • An inventory or rental system.
  • Finished. It’s being shaped with real shops this winter.

The winter pilot

We’d rather watch your counter than pitch you.

BenchTrail is early. We’re building it alongside a handful of independent service shops from November 2026 through January 2027, starting with bike and ski shops.

If you run a shop, we’d like twenty minutes: we walk through the demo together, then you tell us where it doesn’t match how your shop really works. That conversation matters more to us than the demo does.

Insurers and binding reps are welcome too. We want your view on what a service record needs before it could ever stand in for paper.

Get in touch

  1. Email us your shop’s name, town, and what you service.
  2. We’ll find twenty minutes that suits you, off-peak.
  3. Bring your toughest Saturday.
